Tom Sawyer Island

Tom Sawyer Island is located in the middle of the Rivers of America and can only be reached by log raft.  Once over on the island you will discover Injun Joe’s cave, Harper’s Mill, Potter’s Mill, Tom Sawyer’s Scavage Fort, Fort Longhorn and many more areas to explore.  This is an attraction that a lot of people just skip for one reason or another but we highly suggest putting it on your must do list.  Even though the Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom version of Tom Sawyer Island was build after the passing of Walt Disney, he had a major roll in developing the Disneyland version.  Tom Sawyer Island opened on May 20, 1973.  Plan on at least 30 minutes on the island but you could spend much more time.

Touring Tips

• There is a little area facing Big Thunder Mountain Railroad on the Rivers of America that is the perfect spot to sit and relax.  This could be one of the most relaxing locations on Walt Disney World property.
