The upcoming Disney Skyliner Transportation System won’t officially begin operations until this fall but gondola testing is going on right now!
If you have been in the area of Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort recently you just might have caught a glimpse of gondolas moving through the sky. Disney has been testing the Skyliner system between the resort and theme park this past week by running a gondola on the route. The gondola is covered so you can’t see the design but it’s still a great sight to see.
“Walt Disney Imagineering associate project manager Steve Pratt told the Disney Parks Blog that soon there will be more gondolas added and cycling on the line as teams continue testing and training.” Disney Parks Blog
Some interesting facts about the Disney Skyliner: Over 6 miles of cable will be used to connect the entire system. There will be 5 loading stations. The Skyliner will service 4 different resorts (Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney’s Riviera Resort). There will be 3 lines and 2 connecting theme parks (Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios). The new transportation system will give guests some unique views of the Resort that were never able to be seen before.
A couple of weeks ago Disney shared some video footage of Skyliner testing from one of the stations. If you did not have a chance to check that out you can find it here. Talk about it in our all-new WDW Kingdom Disney Forums!
