Walt Disney Studios released a special look at the upcoming live-action film Aladdin heading to theaters on May 24, 2019. If you were looking forward to seeing Will Smith as the Genie, take a look!
Disney’s Aladdin is the next live-action remake heading to theaters just a couple of months after the highly-anticipated Dumbo remake. This new trailer sets the tone for the movie and gives a little more detail into how the iconic characters are going to look and sound.
The opening scene of the clip shows Jafar telling Aladdin, “Your life begins now”. Jafar is seen standing with his snake staff while his sidekick, Iago, sits upon his shoulder. The trailer cuts to quick clips of Aladdin and Abu, Jasmine, Agrabah and other new but familiar sights. The end of the minute long preview ends with Aladdin rubbing the lamp to reveal the Genie. The scene ends by cutting to the Genie, played by Will Smith, out of the lamp saying “You really don’t know who I am, genie, wishes, lamp, none of that ringing a bell”. Interesting!
“A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future. “Aladdin” is produced by Dan Lin, p.g.a., and Jonathan Eirich, p.g.a., with Marc Platt and Kevin De La Noy serving as executive producers. Eight-time Academy Award®-winning composer Alan Menken provides the score, which includes new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and Oscar®-winning lyricists Howard Ashman and Tim Rice and includes two new songs written by Menken and Oscar and Tony Award®-winning songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.” Walt Disney Studios official description
