If you have been to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort during the holiday season in the past twenty years you have marveled at the giant gingerbread house in the lobby. This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the sweet smelling 14 foot tall building that first appeared in 1998. To celebrate the anniversary Disney shared a time-lapse video of the talented pastry chefs putting together this holiday favorite.
The Gingerbread House at the Grand Floridian is a year long project. In fact, it takes the pastry chefs roughly 400 hours to bake the 10,000 pieces it takes to create the masterpiece. After the base structure is finished it will take another week to add the finishing touches and decorate the house. The finishing work includes using 1,000 pounds of honey, 700 pounds of chocolate, 600 pounds of confectioner’s sugar, and many more ingredients!
Not only is the Gingerbread House amazing to look at, it is also a fully functioning sweets shop that sells cookies, brownies and more! Here is a list of some of the treats you will find at Disney’s Grand Floridian’s Gingerbread House.
