Walt Disney World announced some major news in the past 24 hours in regards to the future of Epcot. These are just the first of many amazing things coming to the second oldest theme park at WDW.
Disney first announced that Epcot will see some major “reimagineering” way back in the summer of 2017 during the D23 Expo. Since then we have found out about a handful of amazing transformations and new attractions such as the Guardians of the Galaxy coaster, the new World Showcase Lagoon nighttime experiences, the Space themed restaurant, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and much more. Today, we get even more news.
The old Wonders of Life Pavilion is finally getting a new personality. Since it closed in 2007, the iconic gold domed pavilion has been used for a few reasons. Most recently it has been used as the home base for a lot of the festivals that happen at Epcot throughout the year. Over the past year, Walt Disney World Imagineers have been hard at work in and around the pavilion but no one really had a firm grasp why. We now know that the much talked about building is becoming a play pavilion.
“The ongoing evolution of Epcot includes plans for a play pavilion that’ll be unlike anything you’ve ever seen at the park. This new space will be devoted to playful fun and feature an innovative city that’ll come to life under the dome of the un-named pavilion previously known as Wonders of Life. The pavilion’s city will be bursting with interactive experiences, your favorite Disney characters, hands-on activities and engaging entertainment when it opens just in time for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort!” Disney Parks Blog
If this wasn’t enough news to get you excited, Disney also announced major plans for a renovated Epcot entrance. Most notably the Leave a Legacy photos will be moved to another location outside of the park’s gateway. In their place will be new pathways, green spaces and a new fountain. From the concept art it looks like beauty of the entrance will make for amazing photographs.
Finally, if you are interested in getting a closer look at the projects in development at Epcot the Odyssey Experience Center will be hosting an Experience Center later in 2019. The Experience Center will feature interactive exhibits that will give guests a better idea of all the changes coming to the park. All of this is in preparation for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021!
