Disney is at it again! They just closed a deal to purchased an additional plot of land near Walt Disney World. A deal almost 50 years in the making.
A couple of weeks ago the Walt Disney Company purchased 965 acres of land located in Osceola County southeast of Celebration. This land is just a few miles from Walt Disney World Property. According to the Orlando Sentinal via GrowthSpotter.com, this lot was the previously named BK Ranch and was originally zoned for residential and commercial development. Today we learned that the land just adjacent to this property was just purchased by Disney as well.
The land adjacent to the BK Ranch plot had been owned by the Brown estate. Cattle rancher Oren Brown, who passed away in 1993, was approached by Disney when looking for land to build the Walt Disney World Resort 50 years ago. Brown was offered a reported $4.2 million dollars for his, at the time, 6,750 acres. He refused to sell. Fast forward to 2019 and Disney finally gets the land they wanted, well at least some of it.
The deal Disney just closed with the Brown estate includes 1,575 acres and a price tag of $11 million. This brings the total land purchased over the past couple of months to 2,540 acres. So what will the Walt Disney Company do with all of this new acquired land near Walt Disney World Property? With they build the long rumored 5th theme park? Well, as previously discussed in the last article this is most likely not true. Just like the BK Ranch purchase from last month, this land will most likely be used for water conservation and wetland mitigation. But us Disney fans can dream, can’t we?
Just food for thought while you think about the possibilities. The land is located fairly close to the Poinciana SunRail Station. Do you think it could be used for a 5th gate? Talk about it in our all-new WDW Kingdom Disney Forums!
