Those of you that have been following the Walt Disney Company’s efforts to reduce the net greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2020 know that they mean business.
Disney announced today that their newest project in conjunction with this effort will add a 270 acre, 50-megawatt solar facility by the end of 2018. This new project will provide enough renewable clean energy to power two of its theme parks.
This all new solar facility will be located near Disney’s Animal Kingdom and will include a little over half a million solar panels. To put that in perspective, the relatively new solar facility near Epcot that is shaped like a hidden Mickey, is only roughly 50,000 panels and is 22 acres in size.
When this project is complete the total output of solar energy will be enough to power roughly 25% of the Walt Disney World Resort. Now that is amazing! What do you think about this effort to reduce the net greenhouse gas emissions? Talk about it in our all new WDW Kingdom Forums!
