When the MagicBand 2 was introduced it was the first time since 2013 that the MagicBand received a major cosmetic makeover. Not only is the shape of the MagicBand 2 slightly different then the previous version it now has a removable “puck” or center icon. All you need is a very tiny screwdriver (not included with the MagicBand 2) and you can remove the center piece that contains the RFID or the control center of the MagicBand. What can you possibly do with the center icon you ask besides lose it after you take it out. Disney has a fashionable answer for that.
The MagicKeepers are a collection of clip on and wearable holders for your center icon. After you take out the icon from the MagicBand 2 you simply screw it into one of the newly released MagicKeepers. The first in the line of MagicKeepers is a simple carabiner clip that can be hooked onto basically anything including your belt, purse, backpack and more. It’s a simple design that just might satisfy the guest that does not like to wear the MagicBand on their wrist. The second MagicKeeper design is a fun Mickey or Minnie lanyard. Again, just simply screw the center icon into the middle and you can now wear your RFID info around your neck.
These new MagicKeepers are stylish and innovative but are they really making the function of the MagicBand easier? Personally, I think having it on my wrist is a fast and easy way to get the job done. I am all for innovation and look forward to see what else Disney has in store for the new MagicBand 2.
